Rachel Campos-Duffy with another round of talking points excusing traitorous Trump’s fealty to Putin. Over the last couple of weeks, she’s been on a roll, attacking Ukraine and defending Trump making a deal with Russia to import their diesel fuel.
This Saturday she went after Democrats and pretended Trump just had to capitulate to Putin because of a lack of new oil refineries in the US.
And keep in mind this was one of the few segments even mentioning Russia and Ukraine, as the network had a complete media blackout on Trump lifting the sanctions on Russia for the entire morning. It seems they had trouble figuring out what their talking points should be on the topic, so they chose to ignore it.
CAMPOS-DUFFY: So one of the areas where he made massive gains was in Starr County, all these counties along southern Texas that were screaming for help. Begging Democrats, begging the party they had voted for since the 1920s: “Help us down here. Pay attention to us!”
And President Trump said, “I’ll do it,” and he campaigned, and the Republicans said, “We’re going to shut down the border,” and he did it. And now many of those counties are going back to voting Democrat for other reasons, economic reasons.
But listen, your safety is first and foremost. And so the president needs to go down there, I think, and many of his surrogates. Don’t give up on those gains. Go down there, make the case for what you did with the border, and why you are the one who truly cares about the energy issue.
Part of the reason that the president had to make that deal with regard to refineries in Russia is that we’re not making refineries. We’re not building refineries here.
This is all a Democrat agenda. We have enough oil to last us for a hundred years in this country. We need more refineries. We need more investment in oil here in our own country.
Texas is a state that would really respond to that. But he has to go down and make that case in person, I think.
Never mind that the amount of diesel we’d be getting from Russia is minuscule and won’t make a dent in prices here, but it will help Putin fund his war machine against Ukraine.
And there are a lot of complicated reasons why there aren’t new refineries being built, but none of these people are good with nuance- just hyperbole.
Why Oil Majors Don’t Want to Build New U.S. Refineries:
Refiners do not have an immediate solution to the high prices at the pump—except, of course, a major de-escalation and a lasting deal with Iran. But none of the significant levers to lower U.S. fuel prices are in the hands of the U.S. refiners. […]
Despite record-high margins and sky-high profits over the past few months, none of the refiners plan to build new crude processing facilities. Despite the deep pockets and the blockbuster profits this year, oil companies are unwilling to sink billions of U.S. dollars into a costly new construction venture that may not even be too profitable when it starts up in about five years, as fuel demand is expected to level off and even decline.
“Nobody’s going to go out and make a huge multibillion-dollar investment based on three months of record margins,” Robert Campbell, an analyst at Energy Aspects in New York, told the Wall Street Journal this week.
