Trump high-level propagandist Hassett told Fox News today that growing frustration over high gas prices are just a “very short-term thing” and they soon will be coming down.
Since 2026, gas prices have risen 48%. Nine months is not a “short-term thing” or a minor inconvenience. Hassett routinely says things will get much better soon, but they never do.

The national average price for regular gas continues to rise on Friday, reaching $4.15 per gallon, according to AAA. It is an increase from a week ago, and also a month ago, when regular gas was $4.09 per gallon. If gas prices remain at the current level, they will set a record high for fuel costs on Labor Day. The previous record from Sept. 3, 2012, was $3.82 per gallon. According to AAA, the national average price for a gallon of regular gas has never exceeded the $4 per gallon price point in the country’s history.

Today, average gas price $4.14. That’s up a little bit from a week ago. But from a year ago, it was $3.20. So Americans still feeling the hit at the pump.
I understand the administration’s position is that the Strait of Hormuz is slowly reopening back up. A lot of oil is moving through. And with this Venezuelan oil deal, we’re going to be seeing a lot more coming our way to the United States. And that is going to lower prices.
Realistically speaking, when can Americans expect to see those prices start to move down?
Are we talking a matter of weeks or months here?
HASSETT: Yeah, it’s a very short-term thing. I get an update, just so you know, because the president wants us watching this every day. I get an update every morning about how much oil is making through the Straits, how much oil is going.
The Saudis have lifted the amount of oil going through their pipeline that goes to the Red Sea.
And so we’re getting updates every day and thinking of everything we could do to make prices lower at the pump.
Hassett spent the next solid minute explaining how he gets updates and congratulating the Trump administration, giving cherry-picked data points to make believe they are doing a fine job worrying about the high costs of fuel.
Nothing Hassett said matters.
The Fox News host’s reply to this garbage was to thank Hassett.
“All right. Got to leave it there,” he said.
That’s why Hassett loves to do TV interviews.
He gets thanked for lying to the public.
At least during press gaggles, he may be questioned a bit more harshly. During today’s gaggle, Hassett’s fallback position is to deny the truth. After Hassett dropped his bogus growth numbers, a reporter asked when people are not feeling it.
“Why is no one feeling the benefit?”
Hassett: I just don’t accept the fact that no one is feeling the benefit.”
