Donald Trump’s Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s only response to the discomfort, fear, and outrage the country is feeling over Trump’s brutal economic policies was to go back years and blame Pres. Biden for today’s problems.
Republicans are faced with a very difficult midterm election cycle and still refuse to take any responsibility for what their policies have brought to the country.
FINNERTY: The socialist movement that seems to be, in a way, taking over the Democrat party. Cost of living is fueling a lot of this, as you know, in this country.
And despite a lot of positive economic news, there’s still a feeling from a lot of people that things are too expensive. I think it’s kind of fueling what we’re seeing here. How do we get rid of that liability before we vote again here in November?
How do we ease that so this movement kind of dies out?
Usually, Bessent, like Kevin Hassett, would recite cherry-picked numbers to make it seem like the Trump economy is soaring. Or, like Howard Lutnick would vociferously claim the economic boom is right around the corner. Instead, after the Newsmax host laid out why more social programs, higher taxes on the rich, and a call for change is resonating with the country.
Bessent sounded like a child crying over his missing Tonka truck that he already destroyed but didn’t want his parents to know about.
BESSENT: And look, this comes up all the time. We spent 45, 50 years fighting communism, the Soviet Union, which collapsed.
Show me where it’s ever worked before, whether it’s the Soviet Union, Cuba, Venezuela. And these policies, you always end up with less.
You always end up with less of what people want.
The country is getting so much less under Trump’s economics. So much less; the country is reeling from it.
Bessent did not answer the question and instead used their midterm talking points as a distraction. There is no communism. There is no socialism in this country, and there never will be. The Trump administration controls every facet of government.
BESSENT: And look, people should be upset. The Biden administration torched them.
It was 21.5% unemployment, 4% or 5% loss of purchasing power.
Wages didn’t keep up.
And for working Americans, I think the inflation level is probably 30% or 35% for things like autos, insurance, rent.
And we’ve been trying to bring those down.
Weak sauce, Scottie. There he goes cherry-picking nonsensical statistics.
As Ron Filipkowski remarks, “Biden Biden Biden Biden Biden Biden Biden Biden Biden. It’s tired, dude. Nobody is buying it. Republicans control the presidency, house, senate, supreme court – have controlled the house nearly 4 years. These people NEVER accept responsibility.”
The Biden economy was rocking after he left office, even after being forced to deal with the shockwaves of the COVID pandemic and Trump’s mishandling of it.
It wasn’t Biden who implemented illegal tariffs that jacked up inflation. It wasn’t Biden who started an immoral war with Iran. It wasn’t Biden who claimed the suffering in the country was a “hoax.”
People aren’t buying Bessent’s petty, juvenile excuses.
