Donald Trump has managed to spend the entirety of his trouble-plagued second presidential term living inside a self-aggrandizing bubble of hubris and ego, surrounding himself with a small, tight group of yes-men — and, of course, Natalie Harp — who will only tell him flattering, wonderful thing about himself, while sheilding him from the truth of just how badly he’s shit the proverbial bed out on the real world.
And that’s about to come crashing down on his big, fat head.
New York Times’ Maggie Haberman has released a new report describing President Trump’s “unusually isolated existence” that has led to his complete detachment from reality.
It seems Trump’s isolation and detachment have been a purposeful decision, as he’s all but completely halted the massive, deliberately incendiary political rallies that once defined his political career in favor of sequestering himself with a few select advisors and officials whose primary mission is to make Donnie feel good about himself, regardless of the truth.
According to Haberman, this carefully selected inner circle desperately avoids ever telling Trump the truth about his dismal, dangerously low approval numbers, leading the president down a path of complete detachment that’s resulted in him being blissfully unaware of how much the American people genuinely hate him and blame him for all their current suffering. He’s become so cut off from reality, in fact, that even internal polling conducted by his own people that reflects negatively on him is kept hidden from the president.
Now, midterm elections are right around the corner; Republicans are about to get their asses handed to them, which will undoubtedly lead to Donald Trump’s ultimate impeachment and likely indictment, and the president is preparing to pop his precious bubble in a desperate, last-ditch effort to save his own skin.
At the heart of his efforts to prevent the most brutal, humiliating GOP wipeout in modern history is the Dallas “Trumpapalooza” midterm convention — an event that has already served to humiliate the president as countless Republican lawmakers are avoiding it like the plague, desperate to keep the Trump Stink off their own clothes in hopes that they can scrape by through their local elections by the skin of their teeth.
Even his own wife is pointedly skipping that shindig.
Nevertheless, it seems Trump knows what’s at stake here, and his desire only to hear nice things about himself is being far outweighed by his desire to not go down in history as a disgraced, impeached, and imprisoned president.
Recent reports indicate that the president is prepared to hold near-daily rallies in crucial states across the country to reinvigorate his base to vote for his midterm picks and save what’s left of his disastrous presidency.
I suppose we’ll see just how long he lasts out in the real world, when he discovers just how detested he truly is.
