This week’s episode of “Saturday Night Live” opened with a soliloquy from President Donald Trump, using the occasion of a pharmaceutical company representative fainting in the Oval Office to give James Austin Johnson‘s Trump a minute to speak his mind.
In the real world, Trump froze as others attended to the downed man. The press were quickly ushered out when the real-life rep of Eli Lilly fainted, but not before capturing surreal photos of Trump standing stock-still and a much-mocked clip of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., fleeing the scene.
As the sketch show’s version of the exec faltered, the camera turned to Trump and allowed him to address the audience directly.
“I think I’m playing this very normal. Just stand there and stare like a sociopath. Didn’t even pretend like I was gonna help,” he said. “Like when someone drops something and you do the fake bend, you know?”
Johnson’s Trump commented on Kennedy’s speedy exit, saying that he ran “like someone was trying to give him a vaccine.”
“Brainworm, take the wheel!” Johnson as Trump shouted.
Stepping over the man having a medical episode, the faux-Trump said he “likes to create a big visual that sort of sums up how things are going.”
“Last week, it was the demolishing of the East Wing. This week, it’s a medical professional almost dying in my Oval Office at the mere thought of charging less for drugs,” he said. “Maybe next week, a bald eagle will fall dead out of the sky and splat right on the White House lawn.”
Johnson’s Trump also addressed Zohran Mamdani’s victory in New York City’s mayoral election. saying it put him in a bind because he “likes a winner but [is] not crazy about a Muslim.” Moving on to grocery prices and the fight over funding SNAP benefits, Trump found a way around families not being able to afford Thanksgiving dinner.
“People are saying, ‘Sir, how will I afford my Thanksgiving turkey for my family?’ Well, good news is your family’s not coming because all the planes are gone,” he said.
