The Large Hadron Collider Undergoing An Upgrade

Since 2023, after my car accident, I’ve been studying theoretical physics on my own and it’s been incredible.

I have no math skills, but I do have a basic understanding of Newtonian physics, General Relativity, quantum mechanics, and the standard model.

On my bucket list was flying to London to see some friends, then from there hitting the Large Hadron Collider, but now that will have to wait until after 2030.

Gizmodo:

Meanwhile, last month, the LHC officially went on hiatus for Long Shutdown 3. As the name suggests, this isn’t its first long break, but it is arguably the most important vacation for the accelerator. When it comes back in 2030, it’ll have a new name: the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider. And with its launch, naturally, people will start asking again: Will we find new physics this time?

It discover and confirm the Higgs boson which was huge.

The High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) is a major upgrade of the existing LHC that will allow ATLAS to collect about six times more data than today, opening a new era of precision measurements and searches for rare phenomena

Could a discovery of new particles or forces finally happen?
