Now that President “Deal Maker” has spectacularly failed to make what should have been an easy trade agreement with Canada, he is trying desperately to prove he still has some bullyboy mojo: by threatening to rename Lake Ontario as Lake America.
But I’ll bet that Canada is the one getting the last laugh. Lots of Americans are laughing, too.
As The Daily Beast noted, the Trump White House posted an apparently AI-generated map that appeared to be made of Legos. The map dutifully relabeled the Gulf of Mexico the Trump-preferred Gulf of America. But a “Lake America” sign protruded from the area that is Lake Huron, significantly to the west of Lake Ontario.
I’m sure that had the Canadians shaking in their boots – not!
What really is scary is how little the Trump White House knows or seems to care about the map of the United States. As The Daily Beast put it, the White House map put our nation’s capital “in a fictional patch of America between Virginia and North Carolina.” Delaware was mislabeled as “Maryland” while the real Maryland was left off the map altogether.
In addition, “the White House put ‘Delaware’ where New Jersey belongs and merged New Jersey with Connecticut, effectively moving Connecticut below New York and stripping Trump’s hometown of the waterways that surround it,” TDB noted.
On top of all that, “Rhode Island is squeezed into a sliver while New Hampshire stretches impossibly southward, swallowing Massachusetts’ coastline.”
Besides being the most corrupt, incompetent and worst president ever, Donald Trump is a huge embarrassment.
